The Lighting Project

St Giles’ contains many features of architectural and artistic merit, but these are not well served by the present lighting system. This is dominated by floodlights, which are uneconomical, bad for the environment, and give a poor quality of light. HSE Lighting Services have put together a range of LED lighting schemes, which would transform the church space day and night.

The most cost-effective scheme would see downlighting mounted in the nave at clerestory level, and in the side aisles and lady chapel, with additional uplighting to accentuate the nave ceiling. Feature lighting in the sanctuary would show the altar, reredos and painted ceiling to best effect. The lighting is easily adjustable, giving the perfect quality of light for services, concerts and community events. Including installation and VAT, this scheme would cost £40,000.

The Friends are committed to installing this new lighting scheme and invite you to join us in enhancing this beautiful building and making in useful for performances and displays.
