Current fundraising efforts

Chip in to stop the chipping away!

The gutters, many of the windows and their masonry frames are being urgently renovated. The work needs to be done to safeguard the structure of St Giles' and has been funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Cambridgeshire Historic Churches Trust, and the church's building reserves.

This is an opportunity to also renovate some adjacent decorative masonry, which is much more cost effective if done at the same time.

Abacuses and Capitals

The decorative stonework around the window frames and the door, was made from clunch. This is a relatively soft limestone, and the weather has not been kind to it. Some parts can be repaired, others have to be replaced (though since the clunch is no longer available, the replacements will be a harder stone and should last much longer).  Doing the work whilst the windows are being worked on should make it more cost effective, and will improve the exterior of St Giles.

Vision

Since the work is decorative rather than structural, we plan to do as much as fundraising allows, beginning with those parts overlooking the garden. Please help us raise £30,000 to renovate this stonework for this and future generations.  You can donate through our website, here, or if you're coming to St Giles', by cash or contactless inside the main doors, or by contacting va@fosgc.org
